Hiboy S2 SE

Built around one very good idea

Ten-inch hybrid tires — solid at the front, air-filled at the back — on a steel frame rated for a fifth more load than the model it replaces. The S2 SE puts its money into the parts you actually feel on a city street.

The reason to buy it

Two different tires, on purpose

Almost every electric scooter at this price runs the same tire front and back. The S2 SE does not, and it is the smartest thing about it.

Front — solid

Nothing to puncture where you steer

A flat on the front wheel is the one that puts you on the floor. The S2 SE runs a solid 10-inch tire up front, so there is no tube, no pressure to check and no roadside repair.

Rear — pneumatic

Air where your weight sits

Most of you rides over the back wheel, so that is where cushioning earns its keep. An air-filled 10-inch rear tire soaks up expansion joints and curb edges far better than a solid one can.

It is a genuinely clever piece of design. The air-filled rear tire smooths the ride out on its own, with no pivots and no springs — simple, sealed and built to keep working.

Built to take it

Made to still feel solid two winters in

A commuter ride lives outdoors, gets folded twice a day and meets every pothole on your route. The S2 SE is built for that specific life.

Q235 steel frame

Rated for a fifth more load than the model it replaces, with the extra strength concentrated where the deck meets the stem — the joint that takes the hit every time you drop off a curb. It is why the ride still feels tight rather than flexy as the miles add up.

Sealed drum brake

The braking surface sits enclosed inside the wheel, where rain, road salt and grit simply never reach it. That means consistent stopping power in filthy weather, no squeal when wet, and one of the lowest-maintenance brake designs you can buy at this price.

Brakes

Electronic brake plus a drum

The drum is sealed inside the wheel, so rain, salt and grit never reach the braking surface. It is the low-maintenance choice, and it does not squeal when wet.

Dashboard

Everything on one screen

Speed, battery, riding mode, lights and cruise control, all from the handlebar. Readable in direct sun, which a phone mount often is not.

Rear fender

Wider than it needs to be

A quarter wider than the outgoing part. It is the difference between arriving dry and arriving with a stripe up your back after a wet morning.

The Hiboy S2 SE's widened anti-slip deck
Deck

Room for both feet

A wider anti-slip deck, which matters more than it sounds — it lets you stand with one foot behind the other on a longer ride instead of side by side.

The Hiboy S2 SE's headlight lit at night
Headlight

Bright enough to be seen by

A proper front LED rather than a token one, mounted on the stem so it points where you steer rather than where the deck happens to be aimed.

Side lights

A profile at junctions

Glow strips down both sides of the deck. Front and rear lights do nothing for the driver pulling out of a side street — these do.

Getting it home

Three seconds, then it is luggage

The fold is one latch. Stem down, hook onto the rear fender, done — and at that point it goes wherever you can carry 37.8 lbs.

Folded

Down to 20 inches tall

Short enough to stand in a hallway, slide under a desk, or go behind a counter at work without becoming somebody else’s problem.

Carried

Fits a car trunk

Which is what makes it work as the last mile of a longer trip — drive in, park further out, ride the rest. It comes through our shop doors the same way.

At 37.8 lbs it lifts cleanly onto a train, up a flight of stairs, or into a trunk one-handed once you have the knack of the balance point. Come and pick one up at the shop — that is the quickest way to know how it will suit you.

Where the money went

Small changes, measured

Hiboy’s own figures for the S2 SE against the model it replaces. Unglamorous, and exactly the sort of thing that decides whether you still like a ride two winters in.

17%

wider tires. More rubber on the road, which shows up as grip on wet paint, manhole covers and tram lines.

26%

wider rear fender. The single cheapest upgrade on the ride and the one you notice first in bad weather.

20%

more load capacity. From a Q235 steel frame, which also means more impact resistance where the deck meets the stem.

Who it suits

The rider this one was made for

Every ride in the S2 family is built around a slightly different rider. This is the one the S2 SE was drawn up for.

The S2 SE is your ride if…

  • Your streets are rough and you want the biggest tires available at this price
  • You want a sealed drum brake that carries on working through rain and road salt
  • You fold and carry it daily, and want it to stay tight over years of that
  • You like a dashboard you can read in direct sun and control with a thumb
  • You want the steel frame, the wider deck and the wider fender

    Questions

    Hiboy S2 SE, answered

How fast does the Hiboy S2 SE go?

19 mph in its fastest mode, the same as the standard S2. That sits under New York City’s 20 mph limit for electric scooters.

What is the range on a charge?

Up to 17 miles. As with any electric scooter, the figure you see depends on rider weight, terrain, temperature and speed. For a commute of five or six miles each way that comfortably covers a round trip with room to spare.

How long does it take to charge?

About 5.5 hours from empty using the charger in the box — an overnight charge covers it with hours to spare.

Why does it have two different tires?

A solid front tire cannot puncture, and a front flat is the one most likely to put you down. An air-filled rear tire cushions where your weight actually sits. You get puncture-proofing where it protects you and comfort where it counts.

How does it handle rough roads?

That is what the 10-inch hybrid tires are there for. The air-filled rear tire absorbs expansion joints, manhole covers and curb edges where most of your weight sits, and the larger diameter rolls over broken asphalt far more comfortably than the small tires common at this price.

How do I control the riding modes and lights?

All of it runs from the HD LED dashboard on the handlebar — power, lights, riding mode, cruise control and battery level, under your thumb and readable in direct sunlight. There is nothing to pair and nothing to set up before your first ride.

How much looking after do the tires need?

The solid front tire needs nothing at all — no pressure to check, nothing to puncture. The air-filled rear is a conventional tire, and we will check and set it for you at any of our shops as part of the free inspection.

    What brakes does it use?

An electronic brake on the motor plus a mechanical drum brake. The drum sits sealed inside the wheel, so water, salt and grit never reach the braking surface — less maintenance than a disc and no squeal in the wet.

    Can it climb hills?

Yes — Hiboy rates it to 15 degrees. The 350W motor, 430W at peak, takes bridge ramps and the graded streets around the city in its stride.

    Is the battery safe?

The 36V 7.8Ah pack is UL2272 certified and has overcharge and short-circuit protection built in. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or deformed. Bring it straight in to us instead.

    Is it waterproof?

It is IPX4 rated, so it handles splashes and light rain — not standing water, not a jet wash, and not being left out overnight in a storm.

What is the maximum rider weight?

220 lbs, or 100 kg. The Q235 steel frame is rated for around a fifth more load than the model it replaces, so it stays solid and planted rather than flexy right across that range.

Is it easy to carry and store?

It folds in about three seconds down to 20 inches tall and weighs 37.8 lbs. It goes in a car trunk, under a desk, or through the front door of any of our shops.

Is it safe to ride at night?

It ships with a front LED, a rear light and side glow strips along the deck, so you have a visible profile from the side as well as front and back — which is what matters at junctions. A helmet and something reflective still do more for you after dark than the lights alone.

How much maintenance does it need?

Very little. The front tire is solid so it cannot puncture, and the drum brake is sealed away from weather and grit. Bring it to any of our shops whenever you like — the simple inspection is always free.

Is it a good first electric scooter?

It is one of the best starting points we sell. Unfold it and go, the brakes are predictable and progressive, the dashboard is self-explanatory, and the big hybrid tires make it forgiving over bad surfaces. Come and ride one before you decide.

Can I fit a seat to it?

Yes. There is a With Seat version, and a seat can be fitted afterwards as well. Worth it if you regularly ride more than about twenty minutes at a stretch. We can fit one at any of our shops.

Who is the Hiboy S2 SE for?

Riders doing a daily commute on real city streets who want big, comfortable tires, a frame that stays tight over years, and hardware that keeps working through bad weather. It is also one of the easiest rides in the range to live with day to day.
