Segway Xafari

Class 2 or Class 3, and why that matters here

Segway flag this on their own spec sheet, so we will lead with it: the Xafari runs as a Class 2 at 20 mph or a Class 3 at 28 mph where the law permits, and they note that California and New York have restrictions. Both of our home states. Come in and we will set it correctly for where you actually ride.

936 watt-hours

Eighty-eight miles, and a battery with a brain

The pack is 936Wh and Segway rate the range at up to 88 miles, which they describe as category-leading. The battery management system is doing a lot of that work — managing how the power is drawn rather than simply storing more of it.

A 4-amp fast charge fills it in about 5.3 hours, and the battery carries an IPX7 rating: survival in temporary immersion, not merely rain resistance.

Power comes through twelve levels of assist, regulated by a dual-sensor algorithm reading torque and cadence together. Two sensors give a smoother, more natural hand-off than either alone, which is what makes an electric bike feel like a machine rather than a moped.

What Segway put in front of you

The high-resolution display on the Segway Xafari electric bike

A display that reads itself

Water-resistant, high-resolution, and it adjusts its own brightness to the light around it. No squinting at midday, no dazzle at night.

The scroll wheel control on the Segway Xafari electric bike

A scroll wheel, not a button maze

One wheel moves through settings, data and power levels. It is the difference between changing assist mid-climb and giving up and pedalling harder.

The lighting system on the Segway Xafari electric bike

Up to 1300 lumens, automatically

Light sensors take the output from daytime running lights up to 1300 lumens as conditions need it. That is a genuinely bright headlight, not a token one.

Security and comfort

AirLock, dual tracking, and a fork you can tune

AirLock unlocks the electric bike as you approach and locks it as you walk away. There is nothing to carry and nothing to remember, which is the only kind of lock people actually use every time.

Location runs on Apple Find My and GPS together. Segway make the point plainly: dual positioning covers more ground than GPS alone, because the Find My network reaches places a satellite fix does not.

The front fork gives 80 mm of travel with step-less pre-load and eight levels of damping. That is a properly adjustable fork rather than a token one, and it means the electric bike can be set for your weight and the surface you ride.

Braking is hydraulic front and rear. The frame fits riders from 5 ft 1 in to 6 ft 2 in with an adjustable seat, stem and screen, and the rear rack carries 55 lbs.

Questions

Segway Xafari, answered

Is the Xafari a Class 2 or Class 3 electric bike?

Both, depending on how it is set. Class 2 runs to 20 mph, Class 3 to 28 mph where the law permits — and Segway themselves note that California and New York apply restrictions. Those are our home states, so come in and we will explain what applies where you ride and set the electric bike accordingly.

How far does it go on a charge?

Up to 88 miles from the 936Wh battery, which Segway describe as category-leading. A 4-amp fast charge fills it in about 5.3 hours.

How does the pedal assist work?

Twelve levels, regulated by an algorithm reading torque and cadence together. Two sensors hand power over more smoothly than one, which is what makes it feel like an electric bike being helped rather than a throttle being opened.

What is AirLock?

Keyless locking. The electric bike unlocks as you approach and locks as you walk away, so there is nothing to carry and nothing to forget. It is the only kind of lock people actually use every single time.

How does it track the electric bike if it is stolen?

Apple Find My and GPS together. Dual positioning covers more ground than GPS on its own, because the Find My network reaches places a satellite fix does not.

What suspension does it have?

An 80 mm front fork with step-less pre-load and eight levels of damping adjustment, plus a lockout. That is a genuinely tunable fork, and we set it for your weight before you leave.

What size rider does it fit?

Segway rate it from 5 ft 1 in to 6 ft 2 in, with the seat, stem and display screen all adjustable.

How much can the rack carry?

Up to 55 lbs on the rear rack.

Can I ride it in the rain?

It carries an IPX7 battery rating rating, so light rain and wet roads are within it. Avoid standing water. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric bike that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.

What brakes does it use?

Hydraulic discs front and rear. Hydraulic actuation keeps the lever feel consistent as the pads wear and through a wet winter, which matters on a fat tire electric bike carrying a load.

What colours does it come in?

Silver and Red, at the same price. Pick the finish on this page.

Xafari or Xyber?

The Xyber is a much bigger machine: 20 by 5.0 inch tires, up to 112 miles on two batteries, 175 Nm and a 408 lb weight limit. The Xafari is the lighter, more manageable fat tire electric bike and the one that fits a wider range of riders.

What warranty comes with it?

A year of cover through us as standard, and we handle any claim with Segway for you. Segway is a brand we carry rather than one we design, so the three-year cover on Wilson’s-designed rides does not apply here. Segway also publish their own limited two-year warranty on this model, which runs alongside ours.

Who services it, and can you get parts?

Our own technicians, at all six shops, with express service available at every one. We service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
