Four modes, four honest range figures
Most manufacturers publish one range number and leave you to discover what it cost them to get it. Segway publish four for the MAX G3 Plus, each with the speed it was measured at. Pick the row that matches how you ride and the figure will hold.
All four come from the same 717Wh battery. The difference between the top row and the bottom is entirely how fast you choose to go, which is the most useful thing a range table can tell you.

A 209-watt charger, inside the electric scooter
The fast charger is built into the machine. That sounds like a detail until you have carried a charging brick to an office and back for a month. One cable, and it lives in a bag rather than on your mind.
It is a 209W turbo unit, filling the 717Wh pack in about four hours on its own. Plug a second charger in alongside it and that drops to about three. The second charger is sold separately and we stock them.
For a commuter doing the Drive-mode 36 miles, that is one charge every few days rather than every night.

Regen and mechanical, working together
The Intelligent Braking System blends regenerative braking through the motor with the mechanical discs, on 140 mm rotors. The regen does the everyday slowing and puts a little charge back; the discs are there for everything else.
The practical effect is a brake that behaves consistently rather than one that grabs. On an electric scooter that will spend its life in stop-start traffic, that consistency is what you feel every day.
Suspension is full hydraulic: double hydraulic at the front, double adjustable hydraulic at the rear. Adjustable matters — it lets the electric scooter be set for the person riding it rather than for an average.
IPX6 water resistance, which is a step up from the rating on most commuter electric scooters and covers heavy rain rather than only road splash.
- Braking — Regen plus mechanical, 140 mm rotors
- Front suspension — Double hydraulic
- Rear suspension — Double adjustable hydraulic
- Sealing — IPX6

Three things you will use every ride

It unlocks as you approach
Pair it once and Bluetooth handles the rest. You can set how close you have to be before it wakes, which is worth adjusting if you park somewhere busy.

A headlight that thinks
Six watts, switching itself on as the light drops, with an adjustable beam angle so it points at the road rather than at the horizon.

Tires that close their own punctures
A jelly layer inside seals holes up to 4 mm as they happen. Eleven inches of tubeless tire underneath does the rest of the smoothing.
What the MAX G3 Plus does with the power
Twenty-two hundred watts at peak, 28 mph flat out, and 0 to 15 mph in 2.4 seconds in Boost. The acceleration figure is the one that matters in traffic: it is the difference between joining a gap and waiting for the next one.
A 2.4-inch TFT display carries speed, mode, battery and navigation. Following a route on the bar rather than on a phone in your hand is a genuine safety difference, not a gadget.
And SegRide, Segway’s stability system, sits underneath all of it for the moments when the road surface stops cooperating.

Segway MAX G3 Plus, answered
How far does the Segway MAX G3 Plus really go?
Segway publish four figures, each with its test speed: about 56 miles in Eco at 9.3 mph, 36 in Drive at 15.5 mph, 28 in Sport at 20 mph and 22 in Sport+ at 28 mph. All four come from the same 717Wh battery, so the only variable is how fast you choose to ride.
How fast is it?
28 mph at the top, with 0 to 15 mph in about 2.4 seconds in Boost Mode, from a 2200W peak motor.
How long does it take to charge?
About four hours using the 209W charger built into the electric scooter, or about three if you add a second charger alongside it. The charger being built in means one cable to carry rather than a brick.
What is the Intelligent Braking System?
Regenerative braking through the motor blended with mechanical discs on 140 mm rotors. The regen handles everyday slowing and returns a little charge; the discs cover everything else. The result is consistent rather than grabby, which is what stop-start traffic asks for.
What suspension does it have?
Full hydraulic — double hydraulic at the front, double adjustable hydraulic at the rear. Adjustable is the useful part: we set it for your weight in the shop rather than leaving it at an average setting.
Is the MAX G3 Plus waterproof?
It carries an IPX6 rating, so light rain and wet roads are within it. Avoid standing water. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.
What does IPX6 mean in practice?
It is rated against powerful water jets from any direction, which is a step above the rating on most commuter electric scooters. Heavy rain is within it. Standing water still is not, and never charge a machine that is wet.
Are the tires puncture proof?
They are 11-inch self-sealing tubeless, with a jelly layer that closes punctures up to 4 mm as they happen. Nothing is puncture proof, but this removes most of what ends a ride early.
MAX G3 Plus or MAX G3?
The Plus carries a larger 717Wh battery for 56 miles against 50, a 2200W peak against 2000W, full hydraulic suspension and IPX6 sealing. At the time of writing the Plus is also the cheaper of the two on offer. Come and see both — they are close enough that the price on the day should probably decide it.
Does it work with Apple Find My?
Yes, through the Segway Mobility App, alongside Bluetooth unlocking with an adjustable unlock distance. We set both up before you leave.
What is SegRide?
Segway's stability enhancement system. It keeps the electric scooter composed in the situations that catch riders out — speed, hard cornering, a slick surface — and works alongside the traction control.
Can I limit how full the battery charges?
Yes, in the Segway app. Holding a lithium pack at 100% is what ages it fastest, so capping it at 80% when you do not need all 56 miles is how the range still holds up in a few years.
What warranty comes with it?
A year of cover through us as standard, and we handle any claim with Segway for you. Segway is a brand we carry rather than one we design, so the three-year cover on Wilson’s-designed rides does not apply here.
Who services it, and can you get parts?
Our own technicians, at all six shops, with express service available at every one. We service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
