Segway E2 Pro

Range, at three speeds

Segway publish the E2 Pro’s range three times over, each with the speed it was measured at. It is the most honest thing on the spec sheet and the most useful, because it lets you work out what your own commute will actually return.

24.9 miat 9.3 mph
21.7 miat 12.4 mph
15.5 miat 18.6 mph

Same battery in all three. The difference is entirely the throttle, which is worth knowing before you judge any electric scooter by its headline number.

18.6 mph · 750W rear drive · 18% climb · 265 lb payload · TCS

Tires

Tubeless, and airtight by construction

Segway’s 10-inch tubeless tires are built with an airtight material layer rather than an inner tube. No tube means nothing to pinch, and a puncture tends to become a slow leak you notice at home rather than a failure you notice in traffic.

It is the single most valuable thing on a budget commuter. Punctures are what stop people riding, far more often than range or speed ever do.

The motor is 750W and rear-wheel drive. Rear drive puts the power under your back foot, which is where your weight is, so it finds grip on a hill rather than spinning.

Stopping and protecting

Two brakes, six battery protections

Braking is a front drum paired with rear electronic braking. A drum is sealed against water and grit, so its feel does not change through a winter, and the electronic rear returns a little charge as it slows you.

The battery management system carries six protection points covering riding, charging and storage. Storage is the one people forget: a pack left flat over a winter is a pack that has lost capacity by spring, and the BMS is what guards against that.

Water resistance is split, and Segway are specific about it: IPX4 for the electric scooter, IPX6 for the battery. The battery is the part that must not get wet, and it has the higher rating.

The dashboard is a 2.8-inch display with the power and riding controls grouped on one side of the bar.

Traction control

Unusual at five hundred dollars

Traction control on a $499 electric scooter is not something we get to write often. It watches the driven wheel and trims power the moment it spins faster than the road underneath.

On a dry road you will never notice it. On a wet manhole cover, a painted crossing or a patch of grit on a corner, it is the reason nothing happens.

The handlebar keeps everything in reach: a 2.8-inch dashboard, power and riding mode controls grouped together, and lights front and rear.

Questions

Segway E2 Pro, answered

How far does the Segway E2 Pro go?

Segway publish it three ways: about 24.9 miles at 9.3 mph, 21.7 miles at 12.4 mph and 15.5 miles at its top speed of 18.6 mph. Same battery each time — the only variable is the throttle.

How fast is it?

18.6 mph, from a 750W rear-wheel-drive motor, with an 18% maximum slope.

Are the tires really puncture proof?

They are 10-inch tubeless with a patented airtight layer instead of an inner tube. Nothing is truly puncture proof, but with no tube to pinch, a puncture usually becomes a slow leak you find at home rather than a failure in traffic.

What brakes does it use?

A front drum brake with rear electronic braking. The drum is sealed against water and grit so its feel holds up through the winter, and the electronic rear puts a little charge back as it slows you.

Does the E2 Pro have traction control?

Yes, which is genuinely unusual at this price. It trims power the instant the driven wheel spins faster than the road under it. On a dry road you will never notice it; on wet paint you will be glad of it.

Is it waterproof?

Segway rate the electric scooter IPX4 and the battery IPX6 — the battery, which is the part that really must not get wet, has the higher rating. Light rain and wet roads are fine. Avoid standing water. And never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us.

What does the six-point BMS protect against?

The battery management system covers riding, charging and storage. Storage is the one people overlook — a pack left flat all winter has lost capacity by spring, and the BMS is what guards against that.

Who does it fit?

Segway rate it for riders 4 ft 5 in to 6 ft 5 in, aged 16 and over, up to 265 lbs. That lower height figure makes it one of the few adult electric scooters that also suits a smaller teenager.

E2 Pro or E3 Pro?

The E3 Pro is $100 more and adds suspension at both ends, ten more miles of range and a slightly higher top speed. If your route is rough, the suspension is worth it. If it is smooth, the E2 Pro does the same job for less.

What warranty comes with it?

A year of cover through us as standard, and we handle any claim with Segway for you. Segway is a brand we carry rather than one we design, so the three-year cover on Wilson’s-designed rides does not apply here.

Who services it, and can you get parts?

Our own technicians, at all six shops, with express service available at every one. We service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
