The one that asks nothing of you
Every section on Segway’s own page for the E2 Plus II is about removing a chore: tires that never need pumping, a frame that shrugs off being dropped, a fold that happens in one motion. At 36.2 lbs and rated from age 14, it is the most forgiving thing in the range.
12% climb · 8.1″ inner hollow tires · 198 lb payload · ages 14+
Nothing to inflate, nothing to puncture
The 8.1-inch inner hollow tires are Segway’s patented design: honeycombed rather than air-filled, so there is no pressure to check and no puncture to have.
Air-filled tires ride a little better. But an electric scooter with a flat tire is an electric scooter nobody rides, and for a first machine, for a teenager, or for anyone who would rather not own a pump, that trade is the right way round.
Front double spring suspension with a 27 mm stroke does the softening the tires no longer do, so the ride is more comfortable than a solid-tire electric scooter has any right to be.

Three more chores removed

An automotive-grade steel frame
SPFH590 steel, which is a grade used in car bodies. It is heavier than aluminium and much harder to bend, which is what a first electric scooter needs more than lightness.

Folds in one motion
Quick enough to do at a lift door without holding anyone up, and light enough at 36.2 lbs to carry onto a train afterwards.

A 2.8-inch dashboard
Bigger than the class usually gets. Speed and battery readable at a glance, which matters more for a newer rider than for an experienced one.
Electronic at the front, drum at the rear
Braking pairs a front electronic system with a rear mechanical drum on a hand lever. Two independent systems, one of them entirely mechanical, which is the reassuring arrangement for an electric scooter a younger rider will use.
The drum is fully enclosed, so water and grit never reach the friction surface. Its feel in February is its feel in July.
256-colour RGB ambient lighting with three effects runs along the deck. It is the feature every teenager mentions first, and it happens to make the electric scooter far more visible from the side after dark.
Segway rate it from age 14 and for riders 4 ft 6 in and up, carrying to 198 lbs.

Segway E2 Plus II, answered
How fast does the E2 Plus II go and how far?
15.5 mph, with up to 15.5 miles of range and about 12.4 miles if you hold it flat out. The motor peaks at 500W and handles a 12% slope.
What are inner hollow tires?
Segway's patented honeycombed tire — solid rather than air-filled. There is no pressure to check and no puncture to have. Air-filled tires ride slightly better, but an electric scooter with a flat is an electric scooter nobody rides, and for a first machine that trade is the right way round.
Is it suitable for a teenager?
Segway rate it from age 14, for riders 4 ft 6 in and up, carrying to 198 lbs. Between that rating, the 15.5 mph ceiling, the maintenance-free tires and the steel frame, it is the model we most often point families at. Bring them in and we will check the fit.
What brakes does it have?
A front electronic system with a rear mechanical drum on a hand lever. Two independent systems with one of them fully mechanical is the reassuring arrangement for a newer rider, and the enclosed drum feels the same wet or dry.
How heavy is it?
36.2 lbs, folding to 42.6 by 17.6 by 21.5 inches. It folds in one motion and is light enough to carry onto a train or up a flight of stairs.
What is the frame made of?
SPFH590 automotive-grade steel — the sort used in car bodies. Heavier than aluminium and a great deal harder to bend, which is what a first electric scooter actually needs.
Is it waterproof?
It carries an IPX5 water-resistance rating, so light rain and wet roads are within it. Avoid standing water. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.
Does it have suspension?
Front double spring suspension with a 27 mm stroke. With solid tires underneath, that front suspension is doing the softening, and it does more of it than you would expect.
What is the RGB lighting for?
Two hundred and fifty-six colours with three effects along the deck. It is the feature every teenager mentions first, and it also makes the electric scooter much easier to see from the side after dark.
E2 Plus II or E2 Pro?
The E2 Pro is $150 more and steps up to 18.6 mph, 24.9 miles, tubeless tires, traction control and a 265 lb payload. The Plus II is lighter, cheaper, rated from 14 rather than 16, and needs no tire maintenance at all.
What warranty comes with it?
A year of cover through us as standard, and we handle any claim with Segway for you. Segway is a brand we carry rather than one we design, so the three-year cover on Wilson’s-designed rides does not apply here.
Who services it, and can you get parts?
Our own technicians, at all six shops, with express service available at every one. We service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
