Segway GoKart Pro 2

Two machines, depending on the afternoon

Half of what Segway say about the GoKart Pro 2 is about driving it and half is about playing games in it. Both are real. It does 26.7 mph with 1.02G of acceleration, and it also pairs with games and reproduces in-game collisions through 360-degree haptics.

Driving it

A paddle shifter, and a manual mode to use it in

The paddle shifter would be a gimmick without Manual Drive Mode behind it. Together they turn the kart from something you point into something you drive — choosing a gear for a corner rather than letting it choose one for you.

Auto-centring steering returns the wheel after a turn, which makes the kart far easier to place accurately, and much less tiring over an afternoon.

The steering ratio is 2.1:1 with 1.8 inches of ground clearance — quick and low, which is exactly what a kart should be.

Reverse is capped at 1.9 mph, which is a sensible piece of design on a machine that will be used by teenagers in a car park.

Haptics you feel through the seat

The GoKart Pro 2 connects to games and reproduces what happens in them physically. A collision on screen becomes a jolt through the kart, through 360-degree haptic feedback.

It is an odd thing to explain and an obvious thing to experience, which is why we would rather you tried it than read about it.

Segway also fit an attachable Gen 2 engine speaker, which supplies the sound an electric kart otherwise does not have. Children find this funnier than adults expect.

Their own framing is three applications in one machine: drive it, game in it, ride it. For a family buying one thing that has to stay interesting for years, that is the argument.

  • Haptics — 360-degree feedback
  • Sound — Attachable Gen 2 engine speaker
  • Modes — Drive, game, ride
  • Range — About 15.5 miles

It extends

One kart, adults and children

The chassis extends from 41 to 55.9 inches, which is what lets one kart fit a fourteen-year-old and a full-grown adult. Segway rate it for riders 4.2 to 6.2 ft, aged 14 and over, up to 220 lbs.

That adjustment is the reason a family buys this rather than something sized for one person. It also means it holds its value, because it never stops fitting anyone.

It weighs 106 lbs, so it wants a garage or a shed rather than a hallway, and a car with the seats down to move it.

Questions

Segway GoKart Pro 2, answered

How fast is the GoKart Pro 2?

26.7 mph, with 1.02G of acceleration off the line. Reverse is deliberately capped at 1.9 mph, which is sensible on a machine teenagers will use in a car park.

What is the 360-degree haptic feedback?

The kart connects to games and reproduces what happens in them physically — a collision on screen becomes a jolt you feel through the kart. It is an odd thing to describe and an obvious thing to experience, which is why we would rather you sat in one.

What does the paddle shifter actually do?

It works with Manual Drive Mode, and together they turn the kart from something you point into something you drive: choosing a gear for a corner rather than having one chosen for you. Without the manual mode it would be a gimmick; with it, it is the best part.

Does it fit adults or only children?

Both. The chassis extends from 41 to 55.9 inches, and Segway rate it for riders 4.2 to 6.2 ft, aged 14 and over, up to 220 lbs. That adjustment is the main reason families buy this one.

How far does it go on a charge?

About 15.5 miles, which on a kart is measured in afternoons rather than commutes.

What is auto-centring steering?

The wheel returns to centre after a turn by itself. It makes the kart much easier to place accurately and a great deal less tiring over a long session.

How heavy is it, and where do I keep it?

106 lbs. It wants a garage or a shed rather than a hallway, and a car with the seats down to move it.

What is the engine speaker for?

It supplies the engine noise an electric kart does not have. Children find it considerably funnier than adults expect, and it attaches and detaches easily.

Can it get wet?

It carries an IPX4 water-resistance rating, so light rain and wet roads are within it. Avoid standing water. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.

Where can it be driven?

Private land, car parks with permission, and karting circuits that allow it. It is not a road vehicle. Tell us where you plan to use it and we will give you a straight answer.

Is it related to the Ninebot S2?

Segway also sell a GoKart Kit 2 that converts a Ninebot S2 into a kart. The GoKart Pro 2 is the standalone machine — faster, stronger and with the gaming integration built in.

What warranty comes with it?

A year of cover through us as standard, and we handle any claim with Segway for you. Segway is a brand we carry rather than one we design, so the three-year cover on Wilson’s-designed rides does not apply here.

Who services it, and can you get parts?

Our own technicians, at all six shops, with express service available at every one. We service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
