Sized for the rider, capped at 8.7 mph
This is the children’s version of the S2, and the numbers say what it is for. 8.7 mph, a 9% maximum slope, and a payload band of 44 to 132 lbs — a machine sized and limited for an eight to twelve year old rather than a small adult.

Step on, and lean
A self-balancing electric scooter is easier for children than adults expect, because they are less afraid of it. You step on and lean; the balancing system does the rest, and steering happens through the padded bar against the knees.
Most children have it inside ten minutes. What takes longer, and matters more, is judgement about where to ride — and that is a conversation for a parent rather than a feature of the machine.
Segway rate it for ages 8 to 12, riders 3 ft 7 in to 5 ft 7 in, weighing 44 to 132 lbs. That lower weight figure matters: a self-balancing electric scooter needs a minimum load on it to balance properly.

Lights and music

Dynamic ambient lighting
Bright, colourful and the first thing every child mentions. It also makes them far easier to spot at dusk, which is the part parents care about.

A Bluetooth speaker built in
They will pair a phone to it within the first hour. Worth agreeing a volume that still lets them hear a car, before rather than after.
What the certifications cover, and what they do not
Segway list this model as electrically and battery safety certified. That covers the machine: the cells, the charging behaviour, the electronics.
It does not cover the riding. A helmet is not optional, and knee and elbow pads are worth having for the first few weeks. We stock them and we will fit the helmet properly rather than approximately.
The frame is high-strength alloy steel on 10.5-inch all-terrain tube-type tires, with dual 130W motors peaking at 350W each. It charges in about 2.5 hours for roughly an hour of riding.
One safety point we state on every electric ride we sell: never charge a machine that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.

Segway Ninebot S2 Kids, answered
What age is the S2 Kids for?
Segway rate it for ages 8 to 12, riders 3 ft 7 in to 5 ft 7 in, weighing 44 to 132 lbs. The lower weight figure matters — a self-balancing electric scooter needs a minimum load on it to balance correctly, so it is not suitable for a much smaller child.
How fast does it go?
8.7 mph, with an 8-mile range and about an hour of riding time. It handles a 9% slope. Those limits are the point of the model.
Is it hard for a child to learn?
Usually easier than for an adult, because children are less wary of it. They step on and lean, and the balancing system does the rest. Most have it inside ten minutes. Judgement about where to ride takes longer, and that is a parent conversation rather than a feature.
How long does it take to charge?
About 2.5 hours, give or take half an hour, for roughly an hour of riding.
Is it safe?
Segway list it as electrically and battery safety certified, which covers the machine — cells, charging and electronics. It does not cover the riding: a helmet is not optional and pads are worth having early on. We stock both and fit the helmet properly.
Can it get wet?
It carries an IPX4 water-resistance rating, so light rain and wet roads are within it. Avoid standing water. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.
Why is it on pre-order?
Segway currently list this model as pre-order rather than in stock. Order through us and we will give you a realistic date rather than an optimistic one, and tell you if it moves.
S2 Kids or the adult S2?
The adult S2 is rated from 88 lbs and ages 16 to 50, and goes 11.2 mph for 21.7 miles. If the rider is under 88 lbs, the Kids model is the correct one — the adult machine will not balance properly for them.
Does it have lights and a speaker?
Both. Dynamic ambient lighting, which is the first thing every child mentions and makes them easier to spot at dusk, and a Bluetooth speaker. Agree a volume that still lets them hear a car.
What warranty comes with it?
A year of cover through us as standard, and we handle any claim with Segway for you. Segway is a brand we carry rather than one we design, so the three-year cover on Wilson’s-designed rides does not apply here.
Who services it, and can you get parts?
Our own technicians, at all six shops, with express service available at every one. We service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
