The Mosquito is our own electric scooter, so we are not repeating a manufacturer's claims. We are telling you what it does and what we measured it under. Start with the range, because that is the figure the whole industry quotes at its most flattering and almost nobody explains.

Three miles is the gap between a test condition and a Tuesday. We publish both because the second one is what you will actually get, and because a rider who plans around 22 and gets 19 feels lied to, while a rider who plans around 19 and gets 22 has a good day.
Your own figure moves with weight, hills, cold and how hard you use the throttle. Nothing on this page changes that. What changes is whether we tell you.
The fastest electric scooter you can actually carry upstairs
That is the sentence the Mosquito was designed around, and the design is a series of decisions in its service.
Twenty-nine pounds is the number to hold on to. It is light enough to carry one-handed up a flight of stairs, through a turnstile, or into a car boot without a second person. Past about thirty-five pounds most riders stop carrying and start dragging, and an electric scooter that gets dragged stops being portable in any useful sense.
It folds in seconds rather than in steps, and the carrying handle is positioned so the folded machine balances instead of swinging. That sounds like a small thing until you are holding it for three flights.
What it costs is battery. 461 watt-hours is a deliberately modest pack, and that is the honest trade: the range figures above are what an electric scooter this light can carry. We would rather be straight about that than quietly fit a heavier battery and drop the weight claim.

Over 25 mph, with a ceiling you can set yourself
The motor pulls to more than 25 mph and gets to 15 mph in 5.1 seconds, 20 mph in 8.1. On a 29 lb machine that is genuinely quick, and it is why the five selectable gears matter rather than being a spec-sheet line.
Stay inside a local limit
Plenty of cities and campuses cap electric scooters below the Mosquito's top speed. Set the gear and it simply will not exceed it, which is easier than watching a display.
Stretch the range
Speed costs battery faster than anything else you control. Dropping a gear on a long trip is the single most effective way to arrive with charge left.

The display, and the two settings we left switchable
A full-colour screen carries speed, gear, trip and battery. Everything you need at a glance and nothing you have to hunt for.
Two behaviours are optional rather than fixed, which is deliberate. Cruise control holds a speed without your thumb on the throttle, which some riders love on a long straight and others find unnerving. Zero-start decides whether the motor will engage from standing still or whether you have to kick off first.

The parts that decide whether a light electric scooter feels safe
Light and fast is a combination that puts pressure on everything else, so this is where the design work went.
Three braking systems. Regenerative braking through the throttle slows you and puts a little charge back. A rear drum brake does the mechanical work. A rear step-on brake is there as a third option and as a backup you can reach with a foot. In city traffic, having more than one way to stop is not redundancy, it is the point.
Solid tires, front and rear. No punctures, ever, which on a commuter that has to be reliable on a Tuesday morning is worth more than a slightly softer ride. The cost is honest: solid tires transmit more of the road than air does.
Which is why there is spring suspension at both ends. Front and rear springs put back the compliance the solid tires give away. That pairing is the reason the Mosquito rides better than its tire choice suggests.

What changes when the shop designed the electric scooter
We sell a lot of brands. This one is ours, and there are three practical consequences worth stating rather than implying.
Three years of warranty rather than one. Carried brands get a year through us. Rides we designed get three, because we are the ones standing behind the design instead of relaying a claim to somebody else's warranty department.
We hold the parts. Every part on the Mosquito is modular, and we stock them because we specified them. There is no waiting on a distributor to decide whether a part exists in the country.
We can tell you why. Solid tires instead of pneumatic, a 461Wh pack instead of a bigger one, five gears instead of three: those were decisions, and every one of them has a reason we can give you across a counter.
The trade is that we are accountable for all of it. That is the right way round.

How far does the Mosquito really go?
Twenty-two miles under test conditions, which means a 165 lb rider holding a constant 15 mph. In real mixed riding with stops, hills and faster gears it is closer to nineteen. We publish both because the second number is the one you will live with.
How fast is it?
Over 25 mph in top gear, reaching 15 mph in 5.1 seconds and 20 mph in 8.1. There are five selectable gears, so you can cap it lower whenever you want to.
How heavy is it, and can I really carry it?
29 lb, with a balanced carrying handle built into the folded shape. Most riders carry it one-handed up a flight of stairs without much thought. Come in and pick one up rather than taking our word for it.
How small does it fold?
41.5 by 5.65 by 13 inches, in seconds and without tools. That fits under a desk, in a car boot, or beside you on a train.
Why solid tires instead of air?
Because a commuter has to work on a Tuesday morning, and solid tires cannot puncture. The trade is a firmer ride, which is exactly why we fitted spring suspension at both ends to put the compliance back.
How does it stop?
Three ways. Regenerative braking through the throttle, which also returns a little charge, a rear drum brake, and a rear step-on brake. In traffic, more than one way to stop is the point rather than redundancy.
What can I set on the display?
Speed cap by gear, plus cruise control and zero-start, which are both optional. We ship with the safer defaults and will change either for you in the shop in about a minute.
What is zero-start?
It decides whether the motor engages from a standstill or whether you have to kick off first. Off is the more predictable setting for a new rider; on is quicker away from a light once you are used to it.
How long does it take to charge?
Five to six hours from empty on the 48V 9.6Ah pack.
What is the maximum rider weight?
We do not currently publish one, and we are not going to estimate it. If you are near the upper end of what an electric scooter this size normally takes, call any shop and we will get you a firm answer before you buy.
Can it be ridden in the rain?
It carries an IPx5 rating, so light rain is fine. Avoid standing water and heavy storms. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.
Does it need assembling?
No. It ships ready to ride: unfold it and go. If you buy in a shop we will have checked it over and set it up for you anyway.
What warranty does it come with?
Three years, because the Mosquito is a Wilson's design. Brands we carry rather than design come with one year through us. We handle any claim ourselves rather than passing you to somebody else.
Who services it, and can you get parts?
Our own technicians at all six shops, with express service at every one. Every part on the Mosquito is modular and we stock them, because we specified them. We also service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
How does it compare to the electric scooters you carry from other brands?
On weight, very well: 29 lb with a 25 mph top speed is a hard combination to find. On outright range it gives ground to heavier machines with bigger packs, which is the deliberate trade. If you never carry your electric scooter, one of those may suit you better, and we will say so in the shop.
