Forty miles of range in a forty pound electric scooter
Long range usually arrives attached to weight. The S2 MAX puts a 48V pack of 52 cells under a deck that still folds down and comes up the stairs, which is the whole argument for this model.
A mile of range for every pound of electric scooter. Nothing else in the Hiboy line gets close to that ratio, and it is why the S2 MAX ended up being the one long-distance commuters kept coming back to.
Fifty-two cells, laid flat in the deck
The pack runs the length of the footboard rather than sitting in the stem, so the mass stays low and the frame stays slim. Fifty-two cells at 48V and 11.6Ah is a lot of energy for a commuter this size.
Braking puts some of it back. The S2 MAX brakes electronically as well as mechanically, and the electronic side feeds charge back into the pack every time you slow down. On a hilly route that is worth real distance.

Air tires that seal their own punctures
Ten inches, front and rear, air filled, and lined with sealant. Run over something sharp and the sealant fills the hole as the tire turns, so the pressure stays where it was and the ride stays exactly as comfortable as an air tire should be.
That combination is unusual. Solid tires never puncture but transmit everything; ordinary pneumatics ride well and go flat. This is the middle. Hiboy also puts a spare inner tube for each wheel in the box, which tells you they expect the tires to stay serviceable rather than disposable.

Release the clamp, drop the stem, hook it to the rear fender. Folded it stands 20.7 inches tall and 45.7 long, which is a car trunk, a train luggage rack or the gap behind a desk.

How far does the Hiboy S2 MAX go on a charge?
Up to 40 miles from the 48V 11.6Ah battery. Rider weight, speed, terrain, temperature and which mode you use all change the figure you actually see.
How fast does it go?
19 mph in Sports mode. Standard and Eco cap it lower and stretch the range further.
What does self-healing mean on the tires?
The tires are air-filled and lined with sealant. When something small punctures them, the sealant is pushed into the hole and closes it while the wheel is still turning, so the pressure holds.
How much does it weigh?
40 lbs, or 18.8 kg. That is light for a 40-mile electric scooter and it is the reason people carry this one onto trains.
How small does it fold?
45.7 by 18.9 by 20.7 inches. The stem drops and latches to the rear fender, and the whole thing takes a few seconds.
How long does it take to charge?
Six to seven hours from empty with the supplied charger.
What is regenerative braking?
When you brake, the motor works backwards as a generator and returns some charge to the battery instead of throwing that energy away as heat. It also slows the electric scooter, so the drum brake does less work.
Can it climb hills?
Hiboy rates it to 20 degrees. The 500W motor peaks at 650W, which is what carries it up a longer grade.
What is the maximum rider weight?
220 lbs, or 100 kg.
Is there a seat?
The With Seat build adds a removable saddle and post. On a 40-mile electric scooter it is worth thinking about.
Does it need the app?
No. The app adds cruise control and a battery readout, but modes, lights and speed are all on the handlebar dashboard.
Can I ride it in the rain?
It is IPX4 rated, so splashes and light rain are within what it handles. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen. Bring it straight in to us instead.
Who is the S2 MAX for?
Riders whose commute is long but whose storage is small. If you need 40 miles and you also need to carry the thing up a flight of stairs at the end of it, this is the one in the range built for both.
