Segway eMoped C80

It knows when you have arrived, and when you have gone

Nearly everything Segway say about the C80 is about the RideyGo! intelligent system rather than the hardware. It unlocks as you approach, notices when you sit on it, and locks itself when you walk away. A moped that handles its own security is a moped that is actually secured.

Four colours · AirLock · NFC tag · seat detection · anti-theft alarm · halo headlight

RideyGo!

Four ways it locks and unlocks itself

Segway give the security system more space than anything else on the C80, and it is genuinely the reason to choose one.

AIRLOCK

Unlocks as you approach

Walk up and it wakes. Walk away and it secures itself. There is no app to open, no fob to find and nothing to remember, which is the only kind of lock that gets used every single time.

NFC

A tag you can tap

For when your phone is dead, or someone else is borrowing it. Tap the tag and the moped unlocks — a physical fallback that does not depend on a battery.

SEAT DETECTION

It knows when you sit down

The C80 senses a rider on the seat. That is what lets it stay awake while you are on it and secure itself the moment you are not, without you doing anything at all.

AUTO-LOCK

Secured because you left

Auto-Lock mode ties it together: the moped locks because you walked away, not because you remembered to lock it. Most theft happens to vehicles their owner meant to lock.

Riding it

Easy to learn, and set up to stay comfortable

Segway make a point of the C80 being easy to learn, and on a moped-style frame that is largely about the riding position: you sit, both feet reach the ground at a stop, and there is no balancing to think about.

Central shock absorption is the arrangement they have chosen — the damping placed centrally in the frame rather than only at the wheels, which is what keeps a seated ride level over a broken road.

The intuitive braking system and the halo-shaped headlight are the two things you interact with most. The halo light is distinctive enough that the C80 is recognisable at a distance, which is worth something at night.

There is a built-in anti-theft system on top of the locking, so the moped will make a noise about being moved as well as refusing to move.

  • Locking — AirLock, NFC, seat detection, auto-lock
  • Alarm — Anti-theft system
  • Suspension — Central shock absorption
  • Lighting — Halo-shaped headlight
  • Colours — Yellow, Green, Grey, Light Blue

The details

Three more things worth knowing

The anti-theft system on the Segway eMoped C80

It objects to being moved

The alarm sits alongside the locking rather than replacing it, so the C80 both refuses to move and makes a noise about someone trying.

The braking system on the Segway eMoped C80

Braking you do not have to learn

Set up to behave the way a new rider expects it to, which on a machine bought by people who have never owned a moped is the right priority.

A rider on the Segway eMoped C80

Sit, and go

Both feet down at a stop and nothing to balance. If you have been put off two wheels before, this is the format that usually changes that.

Specification

Why there is no spec sheet on this page

Every other Segway page on this site carries their full technical specification, reproduced in their groupings and their units. This one does not, and we would rather explain why than fill the gap with something plausible.

Segway do not publish a specification table for the C80 on their US store. The markup for one exists in the page source but is entirely commented out, and the rows that survive in it belong to a different product altogether — they describe an 18.7 lb machine rated for ages eight and up, which the C80 plainly is not.

So we have published none of it. Ring us on (516) 300-0944 or come into any of the six shops and we will confirm the current figures with Segway directly before you order. When they publish a table we will put it here.

Questions

Segway eMoped C80, answered

What is the RideyGo! intelligent system?

Segway's name for the C80's security and convenience package: AirLock keyless entry, an NFC tag, seat detection and auto-locking, working together. It is what Segway lead with on this model, and it is genuinely the reason to choose one.

How does AirLock work?

The moped unlocks as you approach and secures itself as you walk away. No app to open, no fob to find and nothing to remember — which is the only kind of lock people actually use every time.

What is the NFC tag for?

A physical fallback. Tap it to unlock when your phone is dead, or when someone else is riding. It does not depend on a battery, which is the point of it.

What does seat detection do?

The C80 senses a rider on the seat, so it stays awake while you are on it and can secure itself the moment you are not. That is what makes Auto-Lock work without you doing anything.

Does it have an alarm?

Yes, a built-in anti-theft system alongside the locking. The moped both refuses to move and makes a noise about someone trying.

Is it easy to ride if I have never ridden a moped?

That is the format it is designed for. You sit, both feet reach the ground at a stop, and there is nothing to balance. If two wheels have put you off before, this is usually what changes that. Come and sit on one.

What suspension does it have?

Central shock absorption — the damping placed centrally in the frame rather than only at the wheels, which is what keeps a seated ride level over a broken road surface.

What colours does it come in?

Yellow, Green, Grey and Light Blue. Same price across all four; pick the colour on this page.

What are the full specifications?

Segway do not currently publish a specification table for the C80 on their US store — the markup is commented out and the rows that survive belong to another product. Rather than publish numbers we cannot stand behind, we have published none. Call us on (516) 300-0944 and we will confirm the current figures with Segway directly.

Can it get wet?

It carries a water-resistance rating, so light rain and wet roads are within it. Avoid standing water. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.

Where can I ride it?

Rules for moped-style electric vehicles vary by state and city, and they are not the same as the rules for an electric scooter. Tell us where you plan to ride and we will tell you what applies before you buy rather than after.

What warranty comes with it?

A year of cover through us as standard, and we handle any claim with Segway for you. Segway is a brand we carry rather than one we design, so the three-year cover on Wilson’s-designed rides does not apply here.

Who services it, and can you get parts?

Our own technicians, at all six shops, with express service available at every one. We service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
