INMOTION RS: a machine that shows its working

Plenty of manufacturers publish a top speed. INMOTION publish the load, the temperature, the gear and the road surface they measured it on. Every headline number below comes with the conditions attached, in their words, because that is what makes a number worth quoting.

INMOTION's own figures

Every number, and how it was measured

These are INMOTION's published specifications for the RS, each shown with the test condition printed beneath their own spec sheet. Read them together and you know exactly what you are buying.

Measured: INMOTION lab test under specific conditions. Rated output is 2000W per wheel.
50%
Maximum slope
Measured: 75 kg load at 25°C, above 80% charge, entering at 15 km/h and climbing 10 m, staying above 5 km/h.
IPX7pack
Waterproofing
Measured: battery pack immersed in 1 m of water for 30 minutes, no damage after 72 hours standing. The machine is rated IPX6.
3.5sec
0–30 mph
Published by INMOTION alongside the figures above, from the same lab programme.

INMOTION's own caveat, in full: all of this data comes from their lab, and actual results vary with riding habits, terrain, environment, tire pressure and payload. We would say the same. What the conditions tell you is that the 100 miles is a steady 25 mph cruise rather than a hundred miles of 68 — which is useful to know before you buy, not after.

The transforming system

A deck that moves, in four fixed positions

This is the part of the RS nothing else on our floor does. The deck sits on adjustable mounts with four locked heights, from 183mm to 303mm — roughly 7.2 to 11.9 inches of ground clearance — and you pick the one that suits where you are riding.

Low is for road: less frontal area, a lower centre of gravity and a more planted machine at the speeds the RS is capable of. High is for everything the road is not — ruts, kerbs, rocks, the fire road that turns up halfway through a ride. INMOTION call it a transforming system, and the word is fair; the two extremes ride like different machines.

INMOTION publish the ends of the range. The two settings between are on the machine, and we will show you all four when you come in.

Drive

Two 2000W motors, one throttle

The RS drives both wheels. Rated output is 2000W each; INMOTION's lab figure for peak is 4200W each, 8400W together. Two driven wheels matter most in the two places a single-motor machine gives itself away — pulling away from a standstill on a gradient, and holding a line on a loose surface where one wheel alone would spin.

Their published 0–30 mph is 3.5 seconds. On a 128 lb machine that is a genuinely quick launch, and it is the reason the fourth gear in their top-speed footnote exists at all.

  • 0–30 mph in 3.5 seconds

Battery

2880Wh, managed cell by cell

Forty amp-hours at 72 volts. The pack runs under a smart battery management system that watches the cells individually rather than the pack as a whole, which is what keeps a battery this size healthy over years rather than seasons.

Charging is 8.5 hours on the standard charger, or 4.5 with fast charging — and the same body that carries the pack folds down to 1473 × 716 × 684mm when you need it in a car.

  • 2880Wh, 72V 40Ah
  • Smart BMS with per-cell monitoring
  • 8.5 h standard charge, 4.5 h fast

Chassis

Damping you set, on both ends

Front and rear suspension are both damping-adjustable, so the RS can be firmed up for the road and softened off for broken ground — the mechanical half of the same argument the deck height makes. The tires are 11 by 3.5 inches, wide enough to carry a 330 lb payload rating and keep a usable contact patch on gravel.

The brakes are the part you notice first in the photographs and the part you are most glad of at 68 mph. Come and pull them in the shop; that tells you more than any specification line.

  • Front and rear damping-adjustable suspension
  • 11” × 3.5” tires

Connected

The app is where the settings live

Ride data, battery information, vehicle details and service access all sit in the INMOTION app, paired to the machine. It is also where the gear selection and the machine's own diagnostics report from, so a question about how the RS is behaving usually has an answer on the screen already.

If something on that screen does not look right, bring it to us with the app open. It saves our technicians a great deal of guessing.

  • Ride statistics and battery information in-app
  • Vehicle information and service pages built in
  • Lighting front, rear and along the deck

Where it ends up

Road machine, trail machine, same afternoon

INMOTION photograph the RS on tarmac, on gravel, in a skate park, through standing water and under a city underpass at night, and that spread is not accidental — it is the case for an electric scooter whose deck height and damping both adjust. One machine, set differently, for each of those.

Low and firm

Deck at 183mm, damping wound up — the setting for open road and the speeds the RS is rated for.

High and soft

Deck at 303mm, damping backed off — clearance for ruts, kerbs and loose surfaces.

Rated for weather

IPX6 on the machine, with the battery pack itself tested to IPX7 by immersion.

INMOTION's test conditions, as published under their own specification sheet:

  • All data comes from INMOTION's lab; results vary with riding habits, terrain, environment, tire pressure and payload.
  • Peak power — lab test under specific conditions.
  • Maximum slope — 75 kg load, 25°C, above 80% charge, entering at 15 km/h and climbing 10 m while staying above 5 km/h.
  • Typical range — 75 kg load, 25°C, single full charge, constant 40 km/h on a flat road.
  • Waterproofing — the IPX7 result comes from immersing the battery pack in 1 m of water for 30 minutes with no damage after standing 72 hours.
  • Top speed — 75 kg load, 25°C, fully charged, fourth gear, hard cement or oil-coated road, no wind.

Comparing across the line: the RS Lite carries the same transforming deck on a lighter, lower-priced machine, and the P6 is the answer if you would rather have no handlebars at all.

INMOTION RS questions we get asked

How fast is the INMOTION RS?
INMOTION rate it at 68 mph (110 km/h), measured with a 75 kg rider at 25°C, fully charged, in fourth gear, on hard cement or oil-coated road with no wind.
Does it really do 100 miles?
That figure is measured at a constant 40 km/h — about 25 mph — with a 75 kg rider on a flat road and a single full charge. Ride it at 25 and 100 miles is the number INMOTION stand behind; ride it hard and it will be less, as with anything.
What is the transforming system?
The deck locks at four heights between 183mm and 303mm. Low for road speed and stability, high for clearance on rough ground. It is the RS's signature feature and the reason the same machine works in both places.
How powerful is it?
Two motors rated 2000W each, with an INMOTION lab peak of 4200W each — 8400W together — and a published 0–30 mph of 3.5 seconds.
How long does it take to charge?
8.5 hours on the standard charger, or 4.5 hours with fast charging.
How heavy is it, and does it fold?
128 lbs, and yes — it folds to 1473 × 716 × 684mm. At that weight, plan on two people or a ramp rather than a lift into a trunk.
What weight can it carry?
330 lbs (150 kg) maximum payload.
Can I ride it in the rain?
It is rated IPX6, and INMOTION tested the battery pack itself to IPX7 by immersing it in a metre of water for half an hour. As always: never charge a machine that is wet or has a swollen pack — bring it straight in to us.
How steep a hill will it climb?
A 50% grade, which is 26 degrees — measured with a 75 kg rider, above 80% charge, entering at 15 km/h.
What suspension does it have?
Front and rear, both damping-adjustable, so you can set the ride firm for road or soft for broken ground.
What size are the tires?
11 by 3.5 inches, front and rear.
Is the RS road legal where I live?
Rules differ by state and by city, and a machine at this speed is not treated the same everywhere. Talk to us before you buy and we will go through what applies where you ride.
RS or RS Lite?
The RS Lite shares the transforming deck in a lighter, less expensive machine. The RS is the one to have if the 68 mph and the 100-mile figure are what you came for. Ride both at one of our shops.
Do you have it in stock?
Stock moves. Call (516) 300-0944 or come in and we will tell you exactly where the nearest one is and when it can be ready.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes — financing is available on the RS. Ask us in the shop or on the phone.
Who services it afterwards?
Our technicians, in the shop. Express service runs at every one of our locations, and we handle any brand and any issue.
