Signals you switch, not signals you mime
Amber indicators sit at both ends of the bar and both sides of the rear fender, worked by a thumb switch at the left grip. They click audibly while they run, which is the part that stops you leaving them on for three blocks.
Taking a hand off the bar to point at a junction is the moment most riders least want to be one-handed. This solves that, and it is rare at any price in this class.

Big wheels, and a fork to go with them
Twelve inches of air-filled tire is closer to a bicycle wheel than to the eight and a half most commuters run. A larger wheel meets a pothole edge at a shallower angle, so it rolls across what a small one drops into.
Ahead of it sits a telescopic fork, so the front wheel has travel of its own rather than passing everything up the stem. The deck is nine inches across with a non-slip pad, which is room to stand square rather than in line.

Each mode caps the top speed, which sets both how quickly it responds and how far the battery goes. Change them at the bar or in the Hiboy app.
- 23Sport. Full output, for open road and keeping pace where the law allows it.
- 18Drive. The everyday setting. Quick enough to commute, calm enough for a bike lane.
- 13Energy saving. Crowded stretches and first rides, and the setting that stretches range furthest.
Speed limits vary by city, and New York City caps electric scooters at 20 mph. A 500W motor peaking at 700W does the work, and Hiboy rates it to a 25 degree climb.

Does the Hiboy X300 really have turn signals?
Yes. Amber indicators front and rear, switched from the left grip, with an audible tick while they are running. Very few electric scooters at this size come with them fitted.
Can the battery be removed?
Yes. The 48V 13.5Ah pack releases from the deck so you can carry it inside and charge it there while the ride stays in a hallway, a garage or a bike room.
How far does it go on a charge?
Up to 37.3 miles. Rider weight, terrain, speed, temperature and which mode you use all change what you actually see.
How fast does it go?
23 mph in Sport mode, 18 in Drive, 13 in Energy saving. Check your local rules; New York City sets a 20 mph limit for electric scooters.
Why twelve-inch wheels?
A bigger wheel meets a pothole edge or a curb lip at a shallower angle, so it rides over what a small wheel falls into. It also puts more rubber on the road, which helps at the top of the speed range.
Does it have suspension?
A telescopic fork at the front. Combined with twelve-inch air tires at both ends, that covers most of what a city surface throws at you.
How long does it take to charge?
Seven hours from empty with the supplied charger.
How heavy is it and does it fold?
52.9 lbs, folding to 25.2 inches tall. It goes in a car trunk. At this weight most riders load it rather than carry it upstairs.
What is the maximum rider weight?
265 lbs, or 120 kg. The nine-inch deck is built around that.
Can it climb hills?
Hiboy rates it to 25 degrees. The 500W motor peaks at 700W, which is what carries it up a longer grade.
What does the app do?
It switches ride modes, adjusts settings and controls the lights from your phone. Everything you need to ride is also on the handlebar.
Can I ride it in the rain?
It carries an IPX5 rating, which is a step above most of the range, so rain and splashes are within what it is built for. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen. Bring it straight in to us instead.
