Hiboy VE1 Pro

Sixteen-inch wheels change the whole conversation

Most electric scooters roll on eight or ten inches of tire. The VE1 Pro runs sixteen, which is closer to a bicycle wheel than to anything else in this class, and it is the reason it feels planted at speeds where smaller wheels start to get nervous.

Everything named. Bell, kickstand and lights are fitted, not extras.

The frame is long and low: 55 inches nose to tail, with a deck 9.1 inches across. That geometry is why it holds a line the way it does. There is more of it touching the road and less of you perched above it.

The figures

A 48-volt system, and what it buys

Running 48 volts instead of the usual 36 is what lets a 350W motor reach 23 mph and still cover 31 miles. More voltage means less current for the same work, so the pack runs cooler and holds its output further into the charge.

Pneumatic at both ends, disc braked at both ends

These are proper air-filled tires. You set the pressure to suit your weight and the roads you ride, and they absorb the sort of surface that makes a solid tire chatter. On a sixteen-inch rim that adds up to a ride closer to a bicycle than to a folding commuter.

Both wheels get a mechanical disc brake. With this much wheel and this much speed, a single brake would be doing too much work, so the stopping is shared front and rear.

The battery sits low and flat

Cells laid out along the length of the deck rather than stacked in the stem. Weight sits low and centred, which is part of why a ride this size still feels balanced when you lean it into a turn.

A full charge takes five to six hours from the wall. Thirty-one miles covers a genuine round-trip commute, or a full day of moving around a city without thinking about it.

Questions

Hiboy VE1 Pro, answered

How fast does the Hiboy VE1 Pro go?

23 mph, which makes it the quickest Hiboy we stock. Check your local rules before riding at that speed; New York City sets a 20 mph limit for electric scooters.

What is the range on a charge?

Up to 31 miles from the 48V 10Ah pack. Rider weight, terrain, temperature and speed all affect the figure you actually see.

Why does it use 16-inch tires?

A larger wheel meets a pothole or a curb edge at a shallower angle, so it rolls over what a smaller wheel drops into. It also puts more rubber on the road, which is what makes it feel stable at the top of its speed range.

Do the tires need pumping up?

They are air-filled, so the pressure is adjustable to suit your weight and the surfaces you ride. We check and set them free at any of our shops.

How long does it take to charge?

Five to six hours from empty using the supplied charger.

Can it climb hills?

Hiboy rates it to 15 degrees. The 48V system gives it more to pull with on a long climb than a 36V commuter of the same rated wattage.

What brakes does it use?

Mechanical disc brakes on both wheels, so stopping force is shared rather than loaded onto one end.

How heavy is it?

48.9 lbs. It folds to 24.8 inches for a car trunk, though at this size most riders keep it in a hallway or a garage rather than carrying it upstairs.

What is the maximum rider weight?

220 lbs, or 100 kg. The long wheelbase and wide deck mean it stays composed across that range.

Can the handlebar height be adjusted?

Yes, the stem is height-adjustable, which matters on a ride with a low 37.4-inch standing height.

Can it be ridden in the rain?

It is IPX4 rated, so splashes and light rain are within what it handles. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen. Bring it straight in to us instead.

Who is the Hiboy VE1 Pro for?

Riders covering real distance on real roads who want a bigger, more planted machine than a folding commuter. If your route is long, fast, or badly surfaced, this is the one in the range to try.
