Punk Rider: the whole platform, with one motor

The Rider and the Rider Pro are the same machine. Same frame, same hydraulic brakes, same self-healing tires, same suspension, same lighting, same folded size. The Pro adds a second motor. Everything structural, you get either way — so the choice between them comes down to power alone.

The signature

What you get either way, and what the second motor adds

With most pairs like this, the cheaper one quietly loses hardware along the way. Not here — the specification sheets are identical everywhere except the drivetrain, so the choice is genuinely just about power.

Identical on both

The hardware is shared
  • Dual hydraulic disc brakes with regen
  • 10 x 3 in self-healing tubeless tires
  • Front and rear rubber suspension cartridges
  • 6061 aerospace-grade aluminium and high-strength steel frame
  • Headlight, taillight and 360° ambient lighting
  • LED display with speed, battery and mode
  • IPX6 water resistance
  • 9-hour charge and the same 1272 x 1320 x 670 mm footprint

The Rider Pro adds

A second motor, and what follows from it
  • 32 mph in place of 24
  • 20° incline in place of 10°
  • 45 miles in Eco in place of 40
  • 260 lb load rating in place of 220
  • 40A controller in place of 25A
  • 52V 18Ah pack in place of 48V 18Ah
  • 69 lbs on the scales in place of 59

If your route is flat and your commute is under fifteen miles each way, the Rider does the job on a lighter machine. If there are real hills in it, the Rider Pro is worth the extra two hundred. Ride both at one of our shops and it settles in about five minutes.

Range, by mode

Three speeds, three distances

Eco
40 mi
at 13 mph
Normal
33 mi
at 20 mph
Sport
22 mi
at 24 mph

All three from the same 48V 18Ah pack. Punk publish the speed each figure was measured at, which is the only way a range number tells you anything useful.

Stopping

Hydraulic discs at both ends

Hydraulic brakes on a $799 machine are not a given, and they are the specification that most changes how the Rider feels to ride in traffic. The same finger pressure gives the same bite every time, including on the tenth stop of a ride.

Regenerative braking works with them, doing the gentle slowing you spend most of a commute doing — which takes the work off the pads and puts a little back into the pack.

  • Dual hydraulic disc brakes
  • Regenerative braking alongside
  • 25A sine wave controller

Tires

Punctures that close themselves

10 by 3 inch tubeless tires with sealant inside. A nail or a shard of glass gets sealed as it goes in, and you usually find out about it when you next check the pressures rather than at the side of the road.

On a machine bought to get someone to work on time, that specification is worth more than most of the numbers above it.

  • 10 x 3 inch self-healing tubeless tires
  • Front and rear rubber suspension cartridges
  • 220 lb load rating

Being seen

Lit on four sides, not two

A headlight and a taillight are the legal minimum and they only help the traffic directly in front of and behind you. The Rider adds ambient strips down both sides of the deck, so a car pulling out of a side street sees you side-on.

The LED screen sits in the middle of the bar with the controls either side — speed, battery and mode, readable without taking a hand off.

  • Headlight, taillight and 360° ambient lighting
  • LED display with speed, battery and mode
  • IPX6 water resistance

Carrying it

Fifty-nine pounds, and a stem that drops

The Rider is the lighter of the two by ten pounds, which is the margin that decides whether a machine goes into a car boot without a second thought. The stem folds down for it.

The frame underneath is 6061 aerospace-grade aluminium reinforced with high-strength steel — the same one the Pro uses, so the weight saving is in the drivetrain rather than the structure.

  • 59 lbs (26.8 kg)
  • 1272 x 1320 x 670 mm unfolded, and the stem folds down
  • 6061 aluminium with high-strength steel

Room to stand properly

Seen from above, the deck is the part worth noticing — long enough to put your feet one behind the other rather than crowded together, which is what makes a forty-minute ride comfortable. Come and stand on one; it tells you more in ten seconds than any dimension does.

Punk Rider questions we get asked

How fast is the Punk Rider?
24 mph (39 km/h), from a 600W motor peaking at 1300W.
How far will it go?
Punk publish all three modes: 40 miles in Eco at 13 mph, 33 miles in Normal at 20 mph, and 22 miles in Sport at 24 mph, from the 48V 18Ah pack.
Rider or Rider Pro?
Identical frames, brakes, tires, suspension, lighting and display. The Pro adds a second motor: 32 mph instead of 24, a 20° incline rating instead of 10°, and 45 miles in Eco instead of 40. Flat commute, the Rider. Real hills, the Pro.
How long does it take to charge?
9 hours from empty on the standard charger.
How much does it weigh?
59 lbs (26.8 kg) — ten pounds lighter than the Rider Pro, and the stem folds flat onto the deck.
What weight can it carry?
220 lbs (100 kg).
What brakes does it have?
Hydraulic discs front and rear, with regenerative braking alongside them — not a given at this price.
What are self-healing tires?
Tubeless tires with sealant inside, so small punctures close as they happen. On a commute that is the difference between arriving and pushing.
Can I ride it in the rain?
It is rated IPX6. As always: never charge a machine that is wet or has a swollen pack — bring it straight in to us.
How steep a hill will it climb?
It is rated to a 10-degree incline. If your route has more than that in it, the Rider Pro is the one to look at.
Is there suspension?
Yes — a sealed rubber suspension cartridge at each end, with nothing to service.
What lighting does it have?
A headlight, a taillight and ambient strips down both sides of the deck, so you are visible from the side as well as front and back.
Do you have it in stock?
Stock moves. Call (516) 300-0944 or come in and we will tell you where the nearest one is.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes — financing is available on the Rider. Ask us in the shop or on the phone.
Can I try one first?
Come in — we keep Punk machines on the floor. Find your nearest Wilson’s shop and try this and the Pro together.
Who services it afterwards?
Our technicians, in the shop. Express service runs at every one of our locations, and we handle any brand and any issue.
