Punk Rebel: the one built to keep going

Punk make four machines. Three of them will take you 28 to 45 miles, which is what a commuting e-scooter is for. The Rebel carries a 60-volt, 38.4 amp-hour pack and is rated at 84 — nearly double the next one down. That single decision is why it weighs 93 pounds and why it is the only Punk you would plan a day around.

Range is the whole argument for the Rebel, so here is the Punk range on one scale — every figure taken from the specification we publish for each machine.

Each figure is the model’s maximum, measured in its most economical ride mode. Ride any of them harder and the number comes down — the Rebel included.

The Rebel comes in two trims, two hundred and fifty dollars apart, and Punk publish one specification sheet that covers both. Before you commit either way, call us on (516) 300-0944 — we will confirm exactly what separates them, and what each one is carrying when it arrives.

Drive

Two motors, 3600 watts at the peak

The Rebel drives both wheels, and the published peak is 3600W. On a machine this heavy that is less about the top speed than about what happens under it: pulling away loaded, holding pace up a long grade, and not running out of shove halfway up a bridge ramp.

The rated incline is 20 degrees, which in practice means the hills on your route stop being part of the decision.

Stopping and grip

Hydraulic discs at both ends, on 11-inch rubber

Hydraulic brakes front and rear, on 11 by 3.5 inch tires — the widest fitment Punk use. Both matter more here than on the lighter machines in the line: 93 pounds plus a rider is a lot of momentum to shed, and a wide contact patch is what keeps that controlled on a wet manhole cover.

The rear end runs a forged swingarm with the caliper mounted inboard of the disc, which is worth a look in person — it is built more like a small motorcycle than an e-scooter.

The deck

It does not pretend to be discreet

Most machines at this money are finished in black on black and left at that. The Rebel is not: the deck carries its own graphic treatment in yellow, white and black, and the rear light is set into the tail of it rather than bolted on afterwards.

Whether that is for you is a matter of taste, and it is a fair reason to come and stand over one before you decide. Standing on the deck also tells you what the footprint is really like, which no photograph does.

Charging

A big battery takes a long time to fill

Nineteen hours from empty on the standard charger — what 38.4 amp-hours asks for, and worth knowing before you own one rather than after. In practice the Rebel is a plug-it-in-Sunday machine: a full pack covers most of a week of ordinary riding, so charging becomes something you do occasionally instead of every night.

Punk Rebel questions we get asked

How fast is the Punk Rebel?
44 mph, from a dual-motor system rated at 3600W peak.
Does it really go 84 miles?
84 miles is the published maximum, from the 60V 38.4Ah pack, in the most economical riding. Speed, rider weight and hills all reduce it — as on any machine. Even so, it is roughly double the range of anything else Punk make.
What is the difference between the Pro and the Pro Max?
Punk publish one specification sheet covering both trims, and it does not separate them. Rather than guess, call us on (516) 300-0944 and we will confirm exactly what changes between the two before you order.
How long does it take to charge?
19 hours from empty on the standard charger. A pack this size is an overnight proposition — but it also means most riders are charging once or twice a week rather than daily.
How heavy is it?
93 lbs. Not a machine you carry up to a third-floor walk-up — it is one you ride to the door and park.
What weight can it carry?
287 lbs.
What brakes does it have?
Hydraulic discs on both wheels.
How steep a hill will it climb?
It is rated to a 20-degree incline.
What size are the tires?
11 by 3.5 inches — the widest Punk fit, and a large part of why it feels planted at speed.
Is it road legal where I live?
Rules vary by state and by city, and a 44 mph machine is not treated the same everywhere. Talk to us before you buy and we will go through what applies where you ride.
Is it in stock?
Not at the moment — both trims are showing out of stock. Call (516) 300-0944 or come in and we will tell you when the next ones land and put your name against one.
Rebel or Rider Pro?
If your riding is a commute, the Rider Pro does 45 miles at 69 lbs and is the easier machine to live with day to day. The Rebel is the one to have when the range and the presence are what you came for.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes — financing is available. Ask us in the shop or on the phone.
Can I see one in person?
Yes. We keep Punk machines on the floor — find your nearest Wilson’s shop and come and have a look.
Who services it afterwards?
Our technicians, in the shop. Express service runs at every one of our locations, and we handle any brand and any issue.
