The ZT3 Pro is Segway’s rough-ground electric scooter, and they are refreshingly specific about what that means. Their spec sheet says “partial unpaved roads, and mostly smooth roads or normal asphalt” — so think fire roads, gravel tracks and broken city streets rather than singletrack. Within that, it is a lot of machine.

Telescopic at the front, spring at the back, bellows over both
Dual front telescopic suspension with a rear spring, which is the arrangement you want when the surface is unpredictable rather than merely rough.
The detail worth noticing is the protective bellows. They are rubber concertinas over the suspension shafts, and their whole job is keeping mud and grit off the sliding surfaces. Grit on a suspension shaft wears the seals, and worn seals turn a good fork into a dead one.
It is an unglamorous part that says something about who designed this electric scooter for what. Nobody puts bellows on a machine they expect to live on tarmac.

Traction control, and what it is for
Segway’s Traction Control System watches the rear wheel and cuts power the instant it starts turning faster than the ground it is on. On gravel, wet leaves or a painted road marking, that is the difference between the electric scooter going where you pointed it and the back stepping out.
Above it sits SegRide, the stability enhancement system, working on the same problem from the chassis side: composure at speed, precision through a turn, confidence on a slick surface.
Neither makes grip that is not there. What they do is stop you spending the grip you have on wheelspin, which on loose ground is most of the battle.
