Segway Max G2

Built to be noticed

Read what Segway themselves say about the Max G2 and the theme is not speed. It is turn signals, a horn loud enough to matter, an alarm, traction control and a battery system with seven protections. This is a commuter designed around the moments that go wrong.

Turn signals, front and rear

Built into the body rather than clipped on. Indicating without taking a hand off the bar is the single most useful safety feature on any commuter, and most electric scooters at this price still do not have it.

The electronic horn on the Segway Max G2 electric scooter

A horn people actually hear

High-decibel and electronic, so it works at a standstill. The same unit doubles as the anti-theft alarm, which is a neat piece of design.

Traction control on the Segway Max G2 electric scooter

Traction control on the driven wheel

Segway’s controller trims power the instant the wheel turns faster than the road under it. On wet paint and drain covers, that is what keeps the electric scooter pointing where you aimed it.

Room to stand

A wider bar and a wider board

Segway widened the handlebar by 20% and took the footboard to 180 mm over the previous generation. Neither is a headline, and both change the ride more than a power figure would.

A wider bar gives finer steering control at low speed and a steadier feel at 22 mph. A wider board lets you plant your feet side by side rather than in a line, which is the difference between standing on an electric scooter and balancing on one.

Under it, hydraulic and spring double suspension, and 10-inch self-healing tubeless tires that seal their own punctures.

Underneath

Seven protections, and a steel frame

The battery management system carries seven separate protection mechanisms. A BMS is the component nobody asks about and everybody depends on: it balances the cells, watches temperature and current, and cuts in before anything drifts out of range.

It is also what keeps the range honest over years rather than months, because cells that stay balanced age evenly.

The frame is high-strength steel, which is heavier than aluminium and considerably harder to bend. On an electric scooter that will be dropped, kerbed and locked to railings for years, that is the right trade.

Segway call the whole efficiency package RideyLong, and quote the theoretical range at 43 miles with about 28 miles held at the top speed.

The top speed is listed twice: about 20 mph as the electric scooter is delivered, and about 22 mph once higher speed is enabled in the Segway-Ninebot app. We do that with you in the shop.

Questions

Segway Max G2, answered

What is the top speed and range of the Max G2?

About 20 mph as delivered and 22 mph once higher speed is enabled in the Segway-Ninebot app. Segway quote a theoretical range of 43 miles, with about 28 miles if you hold it at the top speed.

Does the Max G2 have turn signals?

Yes, integrated front and rear rather than clipped on. Being able to indicate without taking a hand off the bar is the most useful safety feature a commuter can have, and it is still uncommon at this price.

What suspension does it have?

A double system pairing hydraulic and spring units, on 10-inch self-healing tubeless tires. Segway also widened the handlebar by 20% and the footboard to 180 mm over the previous generation, which changes the ride more than the suspension does.

What is the Traction Control System?

Segway's controller watching the driven wheel and trimming power the instant it turns faster than the road beneath it. On wet paint, drain covers and loose grit that is what keeps the electric scooter tracking where you pointed it.

Does the Max G2 support Apple Find My?

The G2 pairs with the Segway-Ninebot app for locking and settings. If built-in Apple Find My matters to you, the Max G3 and F3 both have it. Ask us in the shop and we will show you the difference on the app.

What does the seven-protection BMS do?

The battery management system balances the cells, watches temperature and current and intervenes before anything goes out of range. It is the part nobody asks about and everybody relies on, and it is what keeps the range honest over years rather than months.

Is it waterproof?

It carries an IPX5 water-resistance rating, so light rain and wet roads are within it. Avoid standing water. One safety point worth stating plainly: never charge an electric scooter that is wet, or one whose battery looks swollen or damaged. Bring it straight in to us instead.

How heavy is it and who does it fit?

53.5 lbs, carrying up to 265 lbs. Segway rate it for riders from 3 ft 11 in to 6 ft 6 in, aged 16 and over, which is one of the widest height ranges in their line.

Does it have an alarm?

Yes. The high-decibel electronic horn doubles as an anti-theft alarm, so the same component does both jobs.

Max G2 or Max G3?

The Max G3 doubles the power to 2000W, takes the top speed to 28 mph and adds a navigation display, adjustable hydraulic suspension and Apple Find My. The G2 keeps the signals, the horn and the traction control for $500 less, and for a lot of commuters that is the better spend.

What warranty comes with it?

A year of cover through us as standard, and we handle any claim with Segway for you. Segway is a brand we carry rather than one we design, so the three-year cover on Wilson’s-designed rides does not apply here.

Who services it, and can you get parts?

Our own technicians, at all six shops, with express service available at every one. We service any brand, whether you bought it from us or not.
